Posing Ideas for Your Maternity Session

Expecting and planning your maternity photoshoot? It’s important to choose a photographer that is experienced doing maternity photography. Check out the photographer’s online portfolio and instagram to see if you like their style. Maternity sessions can be light and airy, moody, ethereal, or fun and casual. Your photographer’s style should match how you want to capture yourself and this moment in time.

In terms of maternity posing ideas during the maternity shoot, keeping it natural, fun and relaxed are my recommendations. If you are relaxed and having fun, that will come out in your images. Good photographers will guide you through a number of poses to capture photographs that look natural and beautiful.

Maternity photo shoots are all about the belly! I usually remind clients to have their hands, and their parents hands, framing the belly and highlight the beautiful curve. You will look down at your belly, look at the camera, look away into the distance with a soft smile on your face. For partners, you will do a lot of snuggling. You can be in all of the images or just some. I do always like to get a bunch of gorgeous portraits just of the pregnant mama-to-be.

Studio Newborn Session - Two Week Old Baby

I loved everything about this newborn session!  The baby was a perfect doll and slept the entire photography session (I have been on a roll in 2018 with soundly sleeping babies!).  The parents were the sweetest and an absolute joy to work with.  I also loved the colors, mixtures of grey, pinks, and whites.  It is always hard to choose my favorite images from newborn session galleries, but here are a few of the ones I loved.  Look how radiant this beautiful mommy is!
