March 2017 (Family)

I had so much fun photographing this beautiful family during their Family Session.  The older daughter was a dream to work with.  She was so helpful, guiding her little sister, running after her as needed, and holding her gently so I could get some beautiful images of them together, as well as the whole family.

One of the sweetest images happened when the mother was trying to keep the younger daughter happy for just a few more moments and the older daughter came over behind her mother and kissed her younger sister.  So sweet, and such a beautiful image!

I loved the lighting this day, particularly down by the water.  Here are just a few of my favorites from their family session.

January 9 (Newborn)

I am a natural light newborn photographer and family photographer in Austin, Texas, and I love my job. One of the things that I love and also occasionally find challenging about being a newborn photographer is going on location in my clients' homes for photography sessions, as I never know what kind of light and space situation I will find. Thankfully, I have never gone on location for a photography session and not been able to make it work!

Eventually, I plan to have my own studio, where I can create a warm and inviting space for clients to come relax and enjoy themselves for photography sessions.  As exciting as that goal is, I think that even when I have a photography studio, I will still go on location for clients.  Some photography clients are unable to, or nervous about going to, a studio particularly if they have a premature newborn or medically fragile child.  I would certainly go on location in those types of situations for newborn photography or family photography sessions.  Also, some parents are simply more comfortable staying in their homes, instead of trekking to a studio for a photography session, and as exhausted as I know new parents are right after the birth of a baby, I can completely understand the desire to have a photographer come to them.

Here's a recent behind the scenes peek of me photographing a baby during a Newborn Session on location at my client's home, taken by my client on her iPhone (so the quality is not high).  The best location was a second floor window in the corner of their master bedroom.  I had about 4 feet of space to work with during our Newborn Session, which included photographing their other children as well as the happy new family all together.  Tight quarters, but we did it, and the family was thrilled with the final images.

In the first image, I am reassuring the baby through gentle touch and "shushing" that he is safe, and that he can relax and go back to sleep so I can take some more sleepy shots for our newborn photography session:

I love, love, love working with newborns and babies!  They are so sweet and such amazing little beings.  It is such an honor and joy for me to be able to go into people's homes and photograph their tiniest treasures during the beautiful and fleeting time just after a baby is born.

This newborn baby boy was so easy to photograph I was able to try different set ups and poses during his session.  Other than a few breaks for nursing, he slept the entire session.  For these photos, I turned him from where he had been sleeping peacefully on his back, into this "bum-up" pose.  Just as I got positioned to start photographing him, he gave me the tiny smile you see here, and I captured it!

This beautiful 5-day old baby boy was so much fun to photograph! In our Newborn Session, he was happy and content the entire session! I captured a lot of great sleepy photos, and even a few baby smiles.  This was one of my favorite newborn set ups, with the baby against a textured charcoal grey and black background.  I loved capturing these family photos as well during the Newborn Session.  Here are a few of my favorites:
