Comparison of newborn sessions

Clients always ask, what are the key differences between the newborn sessions, and what do you mean by “wrapped” images? Great questions! Here is a summary of the main differences between newborn sessions, and some examples of images to help you choose what works best for you!

mini newborn session

The Mini Newborn Studio Session is a 1 hour session in my studio with just baby. It includes 2-3 set-ups where baby is wrapped, in props such as wooden bowls or beds, or positioned on a beanbag. It's a wonderful opportunity to capture baby's features and sweet images of baby all swaddled up. We keep baby snuggled up to keep baby content, as an hour with a newborn goes fast. Here are some examples of “wrapped” poses:

standard newborn session

The Standard Newborn Studio Session is about three hours long, but may be less, depending on the needs of your baby. The session includes four set-ups, including parent/baby or sibling/baby images, and the full range of classic newborn poses. Parents and siblings are welcome to join in the session. There is plenty of time to feed and soothe baby in between set-ups. Parents love this session because they can sit back and relax, check their phones, or take a quick nap. What new parent wouldn’t love a few hours to relax while a professional takes care of baby?

fresh 48 session

Fresh 48 sessions take place at the hospital on day 2 or day 3 after birth, and is up to one hour. We focus on capturing the earliest images of baby in this lifestyle session where parents and siblings are welcome to join. The session will produce many beautiful, special images, and I will lightly edit them for exposure, color, and contrast, and then provide you a digital gallery with the best of the best, usually between 30-50 images in a mixture of color and black and white. I will send you one or two sneak peeks within 24 hours of your session to share with family and friends. I love Fresh 48 sessions! They are so filled with emotion, love, tenderness and wonder.

For all sessions, Snow Pixie Photography specializes in natural newborn photography, and capturing babies as they are, whether asleep or awake.  I generally schedule newborn sessions to take place within the first two weeks after birth.  Younger newborns will generally be sleepy and more amenable to being posed, while older newborns will usually be more awake and less willing to be posed.  Sessions are relaxed and flexible with plenty of time for feeding and cuddling.  I will gently guide your baby into poses, but will (of course) never force a pose.  Therefore, I cannot guarantee any specific pose or image.  Your baby will do what your baby will do, and whatever that is, is perfect.

Studio Newborn Sessions take place in my Austin studio.  I provide all materials, including backdrops and props. If you have an heirloom item or other prop you would like incorporated, please let me know during our style consultation.   Otherwise, you do not need to bring anything but baby, extra milk, and a pacifier. My studio is a breastfeeding/bottle friendly zone — boobs and bottles welcome!
